Joan & Ted Miller Nature's Lore Photography With a few exceptions we hope to rectify, we have adventured into much of the world to capture these amazing photographs. Starting off as hobbyists in 1977, our passion for photography grew more serious with scuba and underwater subjects. This involved greater adventures - to the Caymans, Belize, Roatan, Cocos Island, and then the South Pacific to explore Palau and Papua New Guinea’s scenic opportunities. Bird photography remained a private passion – but an elusive enterprise until cameras and lenses improved to the point where flight shots were possible and acceptable long telephoto lenses appeared. The real excitement began with the advent of the digital camera and its instant results, which coincided with our second trip to Kenya, and a third to South Africa which bolstered our interest in new levels of wildlife photography. We share special interests in bird, mammal, and insect photography. Since we live within shouting distance of Fort De Soto County Park in Tampa Bay, we have access to one of the country's best destinations for migratory and native shore birds. We divide our time between our home in the Tampa Bay area and our cabin in Southern Appalachia where we spend several months a year to capture a wide variety of subjects. This is one of our favorite locations to enjoy the deep woods and watch or photograph an abundance of wildlife species and plants. We are members of the National Wildlife Federation, Florida Wildlife Federation, Defenders of Wildlife, Audubon, and the North American Nature Photographers’ Association. Additionally, we are active with local nonprofit groups like Tampa Bay Watch and S.O.S (Save Our Seabirds), where Joan volunteers to rescue, treat, and release injured seabirds.
